Kent Medical Campus

Opportunity to invest in an expanding sector in Kent

On 1 April 2017 Kent Medical Campus became a ‘live’ Enterprise Zone, with business rate discount incentives of up to £275,000 available to businesses locating on the site in the next 5 years.

The privately owned site, just off Junction 7 of the M20, will create a 16ha. medical campus that complements the Kent Institute of Medicine and Surgery (KIMS), which opened in 2014, and provide 98,000m2 flexible accommodation opportunities including headquarters buildings, specialist residential and rehabilitation care, as well as Higher Education training facilities for the medical and healthcare professions.

Benefitting from a ten-year outline planning consent (granted June 2017) and substantial onsite infrastructure in place, the site has already attracted private sector investment. A £18m, 65-bed mental health hospital owned and operated by Cygnet is currently under construction, and planning consent has been granted for a 75-bed step down hospital, with construction starting onsite in April 2018. There has also been significant interest from biotech and medtech companies, as well as other major healthcare investors.

Maidstone Borough Council is also currently assessing the opportunity to develop an innovation centre for start-up businesses in the healthcare, medtech and lifescience sectors on the site, with a facility offering flexible, serviced office accommodation combined with extensive onsite business support.
