Kent Medical Campus Enterprise Zone
A modern business location where health, science and education come together
Kent Medical Campus is a fully integrated centre of excellence for health, medical science and education. With a vision to deliver a place for like-minded businesses and individuals, the Campus will encourage collaborative networking and drive solutions to complex healthcare issues and scientific research.
On 1 April 2017 Kent Medical Campus became a ‘live’ Enterprise Zone, with business rate discount incentives of up to £275,000 available to businesses locating on the site until 2022.
The privately-owned site, just off Junction 7 of the M20, will create a 16ha. medical campus that complements the Kent Institute of Medicine and Surgery (KIMS), which opened in 2014, and provide 98,000m2 flexible accommodation opportunities including headquarters buildings, specialist residential and rehabilitation care, as well as Higher Education training facilities for the medical and healthcare professions.
Cygnet Hospital is a new, 65-bed facility located on a two-acre plot on the Kent Medical Campus which provides services for patients suffering from a variety of mental health problems. The hospital’s services have been agreed in consultation with local and regional NHS bodies to meet the urgent demand for specialist mental health services within Kent and to ensure that local people can be treated close to home and as near as possible to their family and friends.
Work has started onsite to construct a new, state-of-the-art 75 bed, £10 million step down hospital. The care home will provide round-the-clock care for the frail and elderly, providing a mix of rehabilitation, respite and dementia care. It will create more than 100 full-time jobs when it opens.
Plans are also in place to develop an Innovation Centre for start-up businesses in the healthcare, med-tech and life science sectors on the site, with a facility offering flexible, serviced office accommodation combined with extensive onsite business support.
