Deadline announced for Maidstone businesses to apply for grants
29 Jul 2020
Maidstone Borough Council (MBC) is urging local businesses to apply for grants if they haven’t already as the deadline of Friday 28 August has been announced.
The government provided MBC with £28m, and the Council has paid out 99% of the money to businesses across the borough for the £10,000 or £25,000 grants to those businesses affected by the pandemic.
The vast majority of eligible businesses that qualify, have now claimed grants, but as Small Business Grants Fund, the Retail, Hospitality & Leisure Grants Fund are in the final stages, the Council is reminding those that haven’t, but may be eligible, to get in touch as soon as possible to apply.
MBC paid the money out to support those in receipt of small business rates relief and businesses in the retail, hospitality, and leisure sectors affected by Covid-19. As a result, 2,227 Maidstone businesses who qualified have been helped by the non-repayable cash grant.
Cllr Paul Harper, Chairman of the Economic Regeneration and Leisure Committee: “Local businesses have suffered incredibly during the Covid-19 pandemic and we know that these grants have been vital to many of them, and our local economy – helping ensure the survival of shops, cafes, hotels, restaurants and many other businesses.
“We are in the final stages of this programme, and although we know that the majority of eligible local businesses have now claimed grants, if you think that you are eligible, but haven’t yet been in touch with the Council about this, please do so as soon as possible.”
Any business that qualifies and still wants to make a claim should complete the form on the Maidstone Borough Council website: https://my.maidstone.gov.uk/service/Contact_Us_Business_Support
