Kent-based company, Securitatem Groupis going head-to-head with much larger UK rivals after making it through to the finals of a national security awards scheme.

The company has been recognised for its close protection, security and event management of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO). The event, which attracted 500 senior industry leaders to London, unexpectedly clashed with the arrival of thousands of environmental protesters on the streets of the capital during the Extinction Rebellion demonstrations.

Securitatem’s work at WANO has led to it being shortlisted in the Event Security category of the Outstanding Security Performance Awards 2021, putting it up against the likes of G4S and FGH Security.

From its head office at Harrietsham, near Maidstone, Securitatem spent nine months meticulously planning the three and a half day international event.

Securitatem’s work for the 15th meeting of WANO was undertaken on behalf of EDF Energy and involved detailed liaison with the Metropolitan Police Force and venues. The company provided security for the conference and gala dinners at the InterContinental Hotel at the O2.

A key part of the event involved safely transporting 400 of the delegates by boat along the River Thames to a private visit to the National Gallery at Trafalgar Square, returning by coach, against the backdrop of the protesters.

The event went off without a hitch despite the short notice of Extinction Rebellion’s protest with 100 close protection officers being on hand to provide security for the delegates.

Joseph McGee, Group Chief Executive of Securitatem Group said: “It’s clear we are delivering for our clients and this is thanks to our senior management’s combined 200 years of UK law enforcement experience and dedication of all our team.

“Although a relatively young company we are experiencing significant demand for UK and international security services thanks to our approach of safety through security.

“Being alongside some of the biggest players in our industry is testament to the skills of our team and the positive response we received from EDF Energy to our work at WANO. The shortlisting recognises our bespoke approach to security management for our commercial and private clients.”

Given the threat of disruption from the environmental protestors, every member of Securitatem’s team was trained to deal with medical emergencies and equipped with acid trauma kits and glue de-bonders. They were each provided with PPE as well as communications equipment, and a bespoke event command vehicle was in place in case the conference centre needed to be evacuated.

Commenting after WANO, Simone Rossi, Chief Executive of EDF, said: “Congratulations, nothing but praise from those who attended the event in regard to the event security from start to finish no matter the hour of the day.”

Since 2017, the Group’s team at Securitatem Consultancy has provided specialist security management support to client in the UK, Europe, the United States and Canada.

Demand for domestic and commercial security, including premium CCTV, innovative access control systems has led to the Group to create Securitatem Installations. Thanks to its processes and management, Securitatem Installations has secured NSI Gold, the hallmark of excellence for providers of security and fire safety Installations, as well as ISO9001:2015.

The winners of the Outstanding Security Performance Awards 2021, which were delayed for a year due to Covid-19, will be announced on 25 February.
